| OUR SCHOOL DAY |
GENERAL INFORMATION All classes begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. Stepping Stone offers two, three, four and five day schedules. Extended care is available for all students on both a regular and as-needed basis. Stepping Stone is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Our school day is full of many rich opportunities for your child. Math, language arts, computers, sensory activities, and science centers are a part of every classroom. Circle time offers children an opportunity to learn many basic skills as well as enjoying fun poems, songs, and fingerplays. Children are encouraged to participate in Show and Tell and other listening and language-based activities such as group games and storytime. SNACKS & LUNCHES At Stepping Stone, we are very aware of the number of children who suffer from food-related allergies, therefore, children bring their own lunch as well as a healthy morning snack. Children staying on past 3:00 p.m. should also bring a healthy afternoon snack. Parents are encouraged to send in lunches that are healthy as well as easily manipulated by their child. This allows children the freedom to take control of their own belongings and gives them a sense of accomplishment when they have mastered the skills needed during snack and lunchtime. Cold lunches are expected due to time limitations and the number of students. REST TIME A brief half-hour rest period is offered to all of our Pre-school II, Pre-K, and Kindergarten students. Rest mats are provided and children should bring in a crib sheet and small receiving blanket to use during rest-time. Rest items are sent home weekly to be laundered and should be sent back on your child's next school day. Pre-school I students will nap at noon each day for as long as needed. OUTDOOR PLAY Outdoor recess and classroom playtime are just a few of the fun activities the children will enjoy in the afternoon at Stepping Stone. Except for inclement weather, the staff will take the children outside daily. Our fenced-in playground offers many opportunities for children to develop their large muscles through climbing and running. Small child-sized tables are also available for students to sit and paint, color, and work with Play-doh. Bubbles, sand table, balls and other outside activities are also available for fun outdoor play. RELEASE OF CHILDREN Please be prompt in picking up your child. Students will be signed out each day by a staff member. No child will ever be released to anyone other than a properly authorized adult who will be asked to show identification. Written authorization must be submitted to the classroom teacher or director if someone other than an authorized adult will be picking up your child. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS! SECURITY There is a coded key-pad located outside the front door for parent entry into the school. The code on this key-pad will change each August to ensure the safety of our students. ONLY REGISTERED FAMILIES WILL RECEIVE THE CODE TO THE FRONT DOOR! Unauthorized individuals will not be permitted to enter the school for any reason. |
